Question
Posted on: March 6 2013Can lidocaine be added to next wound gel: Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose 4000 7.5% propylene glycol 20% Aqua AD 100% Fiat Ointment 25gr + metronidazole 1%
+ 1amp Morphine 10mg < br/>
Answer
I must make the point that a saturated solution of metronidazole has a pH of 5.8 à 6.5. This is unfavorable to morphine unless you are sighed up to 4.5 along with addition of EDTA. But I fear that by acidifying Metronidazole is converted to Metronidazole (H +) which is unfavorable to the activity. So maybe better morphine replaced by Lidoca ï NE. HCl. For this type of preparation, 2% seems to have a normal concentration; For an ointment one sometimes goes up to 5%.
