Question

Posted on: March 6 2013

From a dentist I got the question to make this preparation: Lidocaine 37% para Formaldehyde 46% paste 5 g

Para formaldehyde does not appear to be available in Belgium. Is there an alternative to this raw material? How do I make this preparation? Can one process lidocaine in another basis? This preparation would serve to stun dental nerves.

Answer

Para Formaldehyde is the trilake of formol and occurs as a powder. It would now be available under the name Polyoxymethylene. Presumably glycerin offers a solution for the preparation of a paste. You may find inspiration bi jquestion about "Rockle's"???
