How to make next preparation? AlCl3 30% Methyl Cellulose 2% Aqua AD 300 ml

Martindale mentions a preparation method where MC for 1/3 is done in boiling water and then the rest of the water-preferably in the form of ice-is added under mixes??? This seemed to me not really feasible. Have therefore tried it first with NaCMC 0.5% but after adding AlCl3 I got a slimy mass that after mixing completely schiftte. What now?

Answer

You must follow the Martindale. The ice is not absolutely necessary. Start by boiling 150ml of water in a beaker and add 6 g of methyl cellulose under good stirring. Disperse the methyl cellulose and then add 100 ml of cold Niekerk. Allow to cool to room temperature. The gel forms. Dissolve AlCl3 and apply to volume with cold water.

your choice of NaCMC was certainly not good because CMC (-) is incompatible with Al (3 +)
