Ointment against Winter Gorges

K have a prescription for ointment against winter gorges from NF6. The Doctor mentions basically lead acetate solution to replace with basic zinc acetate solution. The patient told that lead would be forbidden and therefore replaced by zinc. Is that correct?

Answer

Lead is indeed forbidden. According to data found on the Internet, basic zinc acetate would exist. But whether this can be put into solution seems to me not to be evident. The pH of a zinc acetate solution in water is 6 to 7. Slightly acidic to neutral. Yet not really basic but almost weak basically. I think you can just use zinc acetate instead of basically lead acetate. Zinc acetate also occurs along with erythromycin in a lotion for the treatment of acne.
