Please advice on the preparation of a preparation to treat lesions on the oral mucosa of a cancer patient.

The specimen would contain Lidoca ï NE and NaHCO3. I am thinking of increasing the viscosity with hydroxyethylcellulose (concentration?) The intention is to sterilise the specimen in the autoclave, given that the filtration of the gel will not be possible. Do I have to heat to prepare the gel?

Answer

It is not clear to me whether you want to prepare a liquid mouthwash or a gel. For the preparation of a gel you can add 4.5% hydroxyethylcellulose 400 mPa. S, concentration you have to halve if you want a solution. HEC dissolves cold in water. You are thinking of sterilizing the specimen in the autoclave, but you need to take into account the instability of NaHCO3 at higher temperatures. Therefore, it seems to me better to autoclave the specimen sin bicarbonate and, after cooling, add the appropriate amount of sterile bicarbonate solution from a vial. Of course in aseptic conditions. You will have to start the preparation with a small math exercise.
