Selvet Shampoo (VET) is out of the trade. Someone asked us if we could not make it ourselves.

But we are unable to emulate selenium disulfide. We have already found 30 à 50% sodium lauryl sulfate to use. But at 40 à 50% sodium lauryl sulfate we get a clot. In addition, sodium laurylethersulfate is from the trade. Can we replace this in the shampoo base with sodium lauryl sulfate and in what position?

Answer

I do not understand well what you mean by emulating? Selenium disulfide (S) is a solid substance, insoluble in water as well as in oil. It also cannot be solubilized. S must be suspended. Bentonite can be used as a solvent. I would say 1 a 2% a bit depending on how viscous your shampoo base will be. Triethanolaminelauryl sulfate may be an alternative to nalauryl sulfate? That Nalaurylethersulfate is no longer available I doubt. It used to be the brand name Texapon N40 now it has become Texapon NSO. There is a slight difference in the amount of salt. This product is also a good alternative better than triethanolaminelauryl sulfate. If you look in the booklet Galenic formulary then you will find several shampoo compositions including the shampoo simplex, which could serve as a basis. In the preparation, you must begin to mix with bentonite and add to this powder mixture under "mixes" hot water until you obtain a homogeneous pink dispersion. Then the other ingredients can be added.
