Question
Posted on: March 2 2015Elocom Lotion with neomycin sulfate
We have received the following regulation:
Neomycin 3.25 mg/g
In Elocom lotion AD 100 ml
Neomycin is only available in the sulfate form and gives a precipitate. We suspect that neomycin sulfate is a precipitation with Mometasone furoate. Is there a way to make a preparation with these two in anyway?
Answer
Naj review of the composition of Elocom 0.1% solution for cutaneous use: Isopropyl alcohol, hydroxypropylcellulose, propylene glycol, sodium dihydrogeenphosphate dihydrate, diluted Phosphoric acid, purified water, I can precisely identify niety with which constituent neomycin sulfate is incompatible. Certainly not with mometasonfuroate, which is no salt but an ester!! The active ingredient is insoluble in water and consequently I suspect that the lotion contains a lot of isopropanol. Neomycin sulfate is insoluble in ethanol, as well as in propylene glycol. I have no solution to this problem unless you choose another antibacterial agent instead of neomycin sulfate. One that is soluble in ethanol-propylene glycol???
