Can monochloracetic acid be used to treat warts?

Answer

(with the participation of Apoth. M. Dooms)

from a Dutch study (http://www.huis-arts.nl/content/view/38/2 en 36/2) It has been found that monochloracetic acid is a valid alternative to nitrogen treatment. Pain complaints are lower and effectiveness is equivalent. The raw material monochloroacetic acid is not in stock but is trichloracetic acid. The concentration of trichloracetic acid used varies from 3 to 90%. In low concentrations, up to 10% trichloroacetic acid can be processed in petroleum jelly. In high concentrations (e.g. 90%) A mixture of 9 d trichloroacetic acid and 1 D water shall be prepared. The use of the solution requires some caution. It works highly on the skin and affects clothing, bedding and plastics. (Pharmaceutical weekly June 22nd, 2007)
