How should you use a mouthwash with potassium chlorate? Pure or diluted?

A physician has dished in his books and prescribed the following gargarisma:
R/Cocaine HCl 300mg
potassium chlorate 8g
mint syrup 60g
aqua AD 200ml

Answer

The concentration of potassium chlorate is 4%. The concentration, which we find in the British Pharmaceutical Codex, is 2 à 3%. A dilution with an equal amount of water is prescribed. I would recommend a dilution with a minimum double quantity of water for this prescription. The dilution is of course to some extent dependent on the sensitivity of the oral mucosa.
