In what quantity can isosorbide dinitrate be used for children aged 1-2 years in an ointment to treat the use of the child?

Answer

Apparently the dose is 0.2%, can also be applied for isosorbide nitrate. It also talks of 0.1%, but it is not clear whether the results are equally good. A possible systemic effect should be taken into account.

What is the evidence for the use of glyceryl trinitrate in children?
  • A Cochrane Review concluded that glyceryl trinitrate (GTN) was marginally better than placebo in curing in children's HD fissure [Nelson, 2003b]. Four RCTs (n = 165) Comparing topical 0.2% GTN ointment with placebo in children were identified.

  • Inclusion of all four trials in the analysis showed that the use of topical GTN was significantly more likely to result in healing when compared with placebo (OR 1.92, 95% CI 1.06 to 3.45).
