When preparing next revulsivum, the cream breaks

After adding the mixture Mefenesine-propylene glycol (last step). The cream had already become very flaky after adding the mixture Glycolsalicylate-methylnicotinate.
R/mephenesin 6g
amylsalicylate 6g (from trade replace Dr Glycolsalicylate)
methylnicotinate 600 mg
cetyl alcohol 12g
nalauryl sulfate 1.2 g
cetiol 6g
propylene glycol 3g
water ad 60g
< BR/> In the Original formula of the NF state instead of Cetylalkohol, emulsifying wax. Replaced by Cetylalkohol due to lack. Or was this better replaced by Alcohol Cetylic. Et Stearylic Emulsificans A? We have not used this because the composition of this mixture is unknown to us. Do you have any knowledge of this?

Answer

Of course you should have used ' Alcohol cetylic. et stearylic Emulsificans A '. Also, your replacement of amylsalicylate by Glycolsalicylate may not be the best choice. You could also use Methylsalicylate. Glycolsalicylate has completely different physical properties as amylsalicylate. It is water soluble, among other things. This can be the basis of your less good result. Mefenesine is a chemical substance, which very often causes problems and this was due to its low melting point and suspected solubility in the self-emulsifying. I would dissolve mefenisine together with Amylsalicylate and Methylnicotinate in Cetiol. The self-emulsifying wax is dissolved in this solution by light heating and this forms the oil phase. If the emulsion is not stable, beeswax BV. 3g be added
