A W/O cream with disodium EDTA and salicylic acid breaks when adding powders

R/DinatriumEDTA 4, 5g Salicylic Acid 3g Lanoline 100g Aqua 100g When adding the powders the W/O cream breaks

Answer

We can put some products +/-responsible for breaking the emulsion cream. To a slight extent salicylic acid that still causes problems but certainly Na2 EDTA. This is a reasonably large molecule and presumably has an amphiophile character and thus O/W Emulgatorische properties. Not strong yet sufficient to act as a game breaker. In addition, today adeps lanae or wool grease, which we use here instead of the water-holding wool grease (lanoline), is also no longer as pure and has lost a portion of its W/O emulgatorial properties.

The simplest solution here is to add some extra (2 g) W/O emulsifier like e.g. Arlacel C (sorbitansesquioleate).
